Dig Together: classes hosted by EXCAVATE BODY

Weekly classes hosted by EXCAVATE BODY at Windmill Arts featuring a rotating line-up of Atlanta artists, movers, and teachers!

Teachers will rotate monthly to feature various movers and styles and give those interested in teaching and exploring different methods the opportunity to do so — and of course, to provide dancers (and movers!) with more opportunities to be together, learn from one another, and experience a wide range of techniques and perspectives. Crash Course Contemporary with Andie Knudson

Overall, expect the unexpected, but here are some things that you can count on:

-A grounding warm-up that combines follow-along conditioning with improvisational exercises,

-A focus on rigor, movement flow, strength, stamina, and personal connection to movement

-A final exploration of CRASH TEST repertory that encourages each dancer’s unique choices and preferences

Contemporary Ballet with Sarah Hillmer

This class is a sensory based exploration of one’s body and its relation to the world around it.

Using the structure of a ballet barre, we soften the muscles and bones to open up space in the body, space for textures, more availability and greater possibility. We research line and form to find length and definition, and we investigate different qualities in the body to guide and inform the transitions. Moving into center, I let the sensory ideas become the base for movement, referencing ballet steps, but using them as a launching pad instead of an anchor. We play with our limits, our sense of risk and sensitivity.

My aim is to help you tap into your groove, change what you think is possible and love moving for the time we spend together.
